Father Michael Sievernich, S.J., is a German Jesuit and professor of theology at the Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz. Previously, Fr. Sievernich served as the dean of the Catholic Theology Faculty in Mainz, as the rector of the University of Sankt Georgen in Frankfurt, and as a visiting professor in Mexico City and Buenos Aires. His scholarship has focused on dialogue with liberation theology on matters of Christian social work, ritual and sacrament, and religion and theology in modernity, and he is the author of numerous works. He has also been involved with youth programs, retreats, and counseling. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Munster and entered the Society of Jesus in 1965.
