USCCB Polish National Catholic-Roman Catholic Dialogue

The USCCB's Polish National Catholic-Roman Catholic Dialogue meets biannually to discuss divergent areas of belief and practice and identify points of common witness. The well-received 2006 "Joint Declaration on Unity" recounted past dialogue efforts and indicated that further reciprocity would be possible in areas such as the role of godparents. As a result of the dialogue the two traditions practice limited sacramental sharing, though disagreement remains on issues of primacy and conciliarity. Recent sessions have also addressed questions on clergy transfer between churches, mixed marriages, and the work of Pope Benedict XVI. The Polish National Catholic Church is USCCB's institution partner, with the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops officially joining the dialogue in 2008.
