2011 National Business Ethics Survey: Workplace Ethics in Transition
January 1, 2012
The seventh edition of a longitudinal study of US workplace ethics, the Ethics Resource Center (ERC)'s "2011 National Business Ethics Survey: Workplace Ethics in Transition" tracks the views of all levels within companies to examine business ethics scenarios and challenges. This particular edition suggests surprisingly dichotomous trends, including historically low levels of current misconduct in the American workplace but also a sharp rise in retaliation against employee "whistleblowers" and company pressure to compromise ethical standards. The survey's findings, which seem to have been influenced by the current global recession and the prevalence of social networks, are important to ERC's goals of high business ethics standards and come with recommendations for improving the ethical culture of companies.
