Building Partnerships to Eradicate Modern-Day Slavery: Report of Recommendations to the President

April 1, 2013

In this report the President's Advisory Council on Faith-based and Neighborhood Partnerships identifies modern-day slavery as a vital moral issue, advocating urgent and collaborative action from the US government. The report lays out ten recommendations for President Barack Obama, including a summit to raise awareness, a "National Call to Action" on the issue, improved strategies for embassies and USAID Missions, and an informational "toolkit" for religious and community-based organizations. It emphasizes the importance of American leadership in combating human trafficking, arguing that fighting such a pervasive and pernicious practice requires funding "appropriate to the scale of the crime." The report calls upon the US government to partner with citizens, academic institutions, and the private and non-profit sectors—both religious and non-religious—in order to address the problem.
