Catholicism and Interreligious Dialogue

November 21, 2011

In this groundbreaking volume, James L. Heft, S.M. and 15 leading scholars of world religions try to answer the crucial questions of religious unity and how to overcome ideological differences in order to promote peace and justice. The edited volume features five Catholic scholars who have committed extensive time to engaging religious dialogue presenting their views on the subject. Each scholar describes the present state of interreligious dialogue between the Catholic Church and Judaism, Islam, Hinduism, Buddhism, and Confucianism. Each presentation is followed with a response from two scholars within the particular religious tradition and concluding comments from the Catholic scholar who offered the assessment. The dialogical model is diverse and enables the student of interreligious dialogue to assess the models of theological engagement in the major world religions.
