Christus Dominus

October 28, 1965

Released during the Second Vatican Council in 1965, the decree Christus Dominus both establishes the traditional basis for the Catholic Church's bishops, as well as redefines their role in the Church. Christus Dominus calls upon the bishops to remain in unison with both the College of Bishops and the papacy, and to be mindful of the position of the Universal Church and other dioceses, as well as their own. Christus Dominus also calls for strong national conferences of bishops, to set the standard for the Church in their country, while fully supporting the Vatican and the pope.
