Contraceptive Security: What Are Faith-Based Organizations Saying?
October 18, 2011
This publication, authored by Christian Connections for International Health (CCIH), reports findings from interviews with the African Christian Health Associations (CHAs) in Zimbabwe, Kenya, Malawi, Sudan, Nigeria, Zambia, Chad, and Tanzania about family planning and reproductive health. CHAs provide about 30-50 percent of health services in most African countries, and many are the sole providers in rural areas. The report concludes that many African FBOs, CHAs particularly, acknowledge family planning and reproductive health as a critical part of healthcare; consequently, governments, donors, and other stakeholders ought to give CHAs a greater voice in planning within the sector. CCIH interviewed the organizations at the biannual African Christian Health Associations Platform (ACHAP) in Accra, Ghana, in February 2011.
