Faith-Based Education for Sustainable Development: Teacher's Toolkit

June 1, 2013

This toolkit, created by the Alliance of Religions and Conservation and the Kenya Organization for Environmental Education for Christian, Hindu, and Muslim faith groups in Kenya, emphasizes a holistic religious approach to education for sustainable development around seven themes: water; health, sanitation, and hygiene; waste; energy; biodiversity; agriculture; and climate change. Outlining religion’s importance in the environmental movement, the document delves into each of the themes, highlighting the best way to present the information as a teacher. It concludes with a summary of micro-projects conducted by individual schools related to the themes of religion and the environment, such as hygienic rain water harvesting and waste management techniques.
