Joint Statement by the Islamic Development Bank and the United Nations Secretary-General's Advisory Board on Water and Sanitation
November 19, 2008
In this agreement, the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) and the United Nations Secretary-General’s Advisory Board (UNSGAB) commit to collaborate in efforts to ameliorate the water and sanitation crisis in the Arab region in conjunction with the related Millennium Development Goal. IsDB proposes a number of procedural, financial, and organizational improvements, including partnerships with other water and sanitation sector actors in the region like the Arab Countries Water Utilities Association. UNSGAB pledges institutional support to IsDB in these new initiatives: assessment of program and financial policy proposals, communication with government and multilateral institutions, and information dissemination. The agreement was articulated at the 11th Meeting of the UN Secretary-General's Advisory Board on Water and Sanitation, hosted by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and supported by the Islamic Development Bank and the Arab Water Council in November 2008.
