A Common Word

A Common Word is a prominent initiative promoting dialogue between Muslims and Christians in an effort to foster global peace and interreligious understanding. It began with the publication on October 13, 2007 of “A Common Word Between Us and You,” an open letter from Muslim clerics and intellectuals to the world's foremost Christian religious leaders. Organized by the Royal Aal al-Bayt Institute for Islamic Thought in Jordan under the leadership of Prince Ghazi bin Muhammad bin Talal, never before had such a diverse group of Muslim thinkers united in calling and laying the groundwork for increased interreligious dialogue. The letter made an immediate impact, compelling numerous high-profile responses in the Christian community. Since then, A Common Word has acted as the leading force in Muslim-Christian dialogue and has begun advancing its goals through numerous interfaith conferences. Information about these events and the ongoing dialogue process is featured on this site.
