Domestic violence penetrates the family and home. Religion plays a complex role as an influential force on family structure across many cultures. As such, it has both been used as a cover for abuse and has served to help provide prevention, protection, and recovery from abusive situations. Domestic violence is unfortunately prevalent across developing and developed countries, though it is particularly problematic in regions which lack the legal structure to address it and the resources to support victims' recovery. These resources offer some examples of faith-inspired action to support victims of domestic violence and address the root causes of abuse, particularly misconstrued religious teaching. The organizations, programs, and publications highlight faith-inspired efforts around the world to eliminate domestic violence. The resources are part of an ongoing initiative focused on religion and global development sponsored by the Luce Foundation.
