Education is recognized by many religious traditions as an important part of putting faith into action by spreading God’s word and working towards social justice. The vast gap between boys’ and girls’ education around the world is receiving increased attention from faith-based actors in an effort to promote girls' rights and achieve equality for all. Reducing the gap between male and female education is a necessary component of development efforts. A lack of girls' education leads to high illiteracy rates, increased instances of child marriage, gender-based violence, and a lack of economic growth. Faith-inspired actors from multiple traditions are establishing schools, improving access to education, running empowerment programs, and engaging in advocacy for girls’ right to education. These resources reflect the organizations, programs, and publications related to these efforts. The resources are part of an ongoing initiative focused on religion and global development sponsored by the Luce Foundation.
