The Olympic Movement

The Olympic Movement comprises individuals and organizations guided by the Olympic Charter and led by the International Olympic Committee. These include national and international sports federations, as well as athletes. Founded by Pierre de Coubertin in 1894, the movement has since organized 27 Summer Games and 21 Winter Games in dozens of countries and spearheaded projects in support of sport, health, culture, and peace across the globe. The Olympic Movement seeks to put "sport at the service of the harmonious development of humankind, with a view to promoting a peaceful society concerned with the preservation of human dignityā€¯ (Olympic Charter).
