The Berkley Center is home to an ongoing scholarly effort to address the meaning and implications of religious freedom, a fundamental human right threatened in many parts of the world. From 2011 to 2016, the Religious Freedom Project brought leading scholars and practitioners to explore religious freedom in its political, economic, social, and cultural dimensions. Effective 2017 the center's work on religious freedom is continuing under the auspices of the Religious Freedom Research Project.
