What Are the Roots of the Distinction between Theology and Philosophy?

April 7, 2011
4:30 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. EDT
Location: Healy Hall Riggs Library Map

In this Berkley Center Lecture Professor Jean-Luc Marion explored the supposed conflict between philosophy and theology in light of the present situation of philosophy—that of the end of metaphysics and the radical possibilities this opens for thought. Marion considered how this new horizon renders problematic or even obsolete the criteria that had been used to make a clear distinction between theology and philosophy and explored how a completely different community may build up between the two disciplines.

This event was sponsored by the Berkley Center for Religion, Peace, and World Affairs and the Office of the President.
