J. Lorand Matory is Lawrence Richardson Professor of Cultural Anthropology at Duke University. He researches the circum-Atlantic movements and transformations of the Yoruba religion, as well as ethnic diversity in the black population of the United States. Matory earned a B.A. from Howard University and a M.A. and Ph.D. from the University of Chicago.
