Michael Warner is Seymour H. Knox Professor of English Literature and American Studies at Yale University. His research and writing addresses topics including colonial and antebellum America, social theory, media studies, queer theory, and politics; his work has a common emphasis on the way different social worlds are built up out of different circulating media and ways of reading or hearing. Warner has authored, edited, or co-edited a number of books, including Varieties of Secularism in a Secular Age (2010, ed. with Jonathan VanAntwerpen and Craig Calhoun); The Portable Walt Whitman (2003); Publics and Counterpublics (2002); and The Trouble with Normal: Sex, Politics, and the Ethics of Queer Life (1999), among others.
