Pamela Aall is a senior vice president at the U.S. Institute of Peace and provost of USIP’s Academy for International Conflict Management and Peacebuilding, where she has worked since 1993. Her research has focused on conflict management and resolution, mediation in inter- and intrastate conflicts, the role of education in conflict resolution, and the role that NGOs play in mediation efforts. Before joining USIP, she worked Rockefeller Foundation, the European Cultural Foundation, and the International Council for Educational Development; she has also consulted for the Institute of International Education and the President's Committee on the Arts and the Humanities. Aall is the author or editor of several publications, including Rewiring Regional Security in a Fragmented World (2011), Leashing the Dogs of War: Conflict Management in a Divided World (2007), and Taming Intractable Conflicts: Mediation in the Hardest Cases (2004), all with Chester A. Crocker and Fen Osler Hampson.
