Tarek Mitri is director of the American University of Beirut’s Issam Fares Institute for Public Policy and International Affairs and a former Lebanese politician. He has served in the Lebanese government as a minister in the departments of information, culture, foreign affairs, environment, and administrative reform. He was the coordinator of interreligious relations and dialogue and program secretary for Christian-Muslim dialogue at the World Council of Churches, Geneva, from 1991 to 2005. From 1982 until 1991, he taught at Saint Joseph University in Beirut. His main areas of interest are the history and sociology of Christian-Muslim relations and the modern history and sociology of Christianity in the Arab and Muslim world.
