Author: Eric Patterson

January 3, 2011

Eric Patterson published an article in Democracy and Society entitled "Sustainable Democracy Promotion: What Obama Learn from Bush." In the article, Patterson explores President Obama's definition of "sustainable democracy" and compares much of his administration's democracy promotion policy to that of President George Bush. He also identifies lessons to be learned from the Bush administrations successes and failures in this realm, including a unified message of commitment to human rights, liberty and democratic values; connecting democracy promotion to other foreign policy goals; and breaking down bureaucratic and institutional resistance to these issues.
