From November 7 to 10, 2016, a group of Senegalese religious leaders and a representative of Senegal’s Ministry of Health and Social Action visited Conakry, Guinea to discuss best practices for engaging faith leaders in maternal and child health. These religious leaders are part of the Cadre des Religieux pour la Santé et le Développement (CRSD), an interfaith association working to promote maternal and child health within Senegal’s national family planning strategy. In Conakry, the group held meetings with diverse actors (government, religious leaders, development agencies, etc.) to discuss the intersection of faith and family planning. The visit allowed the Senegalese and Guineans to discuss the importance of religious engagement in improving maternal and child health, and particularly the roles that religious leaders can and should play in promoting birth spacing.
