Philip Sumpter, a visiting lecturer at the University of Bonn, is an emerging scholar of Middle Eastern
Christianity. His research focuses on Protestant Christianity among Palestinians and Arab
Israelis. He previously was a lecturer and research
associate at Nazareth Evangelical Theological Seminary in Israel. Sumpter is
the author of The Substance of Psalm 24: An Attempt to
Read Scripture after Brevard S. Childs (2015); with Alexander Miller, he is currently co-editing a
book on Protestant and evangelical Christians in Israel-Palestine.
Sumpter was also a part of the Christianity and Freedom Project headed by
the Berkley Center's Religious Freedom Project. He holds a Ph.D. from
the University of Gloucestershire.
