In 2022 Pope Francis instituted a major reform of the Roman Curia, the Vatican's central administration. His far-reaching changes in governance and organization, designed to streamline the bureaucracy and improve efficiency and transparency, are already having a major impact on the Catholic Church. What is the nature of the changes and their historical significance? How do they relate to other aspects of Francis' papacy, including the recently completed Synod on Synodality?
In this lecture Monsignor Anthony Ekpo, author of a major new book, The Roman Curia: History, Theology, and Organization (2024), will address these questions and share his reflections on the challenges and opportunities that institutional reform poses for the global Church.
This event is convened by the Berkley Center for Religion, Peace, and World Affairs and the Initiative on Catholic Social Thought and Public Life
