The Israelization of Jewish Identity: The Israeli Election and Beyond

The state of Israel is fast becoming the homeland for the majority of Jewish people in the world; with present high growth rates in the country, more than seven million of the world's 13.5 million Jews will live in Israel in five years' time. A parallel development is the growing centrality of Israeli domestic and international affairs as a concern for Jews living outside of Israel. Against the backdrop of the recent election, Yossi Shain, a professor both at Tel Aviv University and at Georgetown, explored how Israeli political affairs are increasingly dictating Jewish identity both inside and outside the country.
