Ada del Carmen Monje de Afaro is a preschool and sixth grade teacher at the public school in Las Vegas, Arcatao, Chalatenango in El Salvador. She entered the field of education as a popular teacher at age seventeen and with a sixth grade education. After years of catching up on her studies and giving classes simultaneously, she received her teaching degree from the University of El Salvador in 1999. She continues to work at the school at which she started. She is motivated to remain there not only to support her family, but also to assist her local community as a whole.
