Ali Riaz is a Distinguished Professor at the Department of Politics and Government at Illinois State University. He has previously taught at universities in England, South Carolina, and Bangladesh. He is a nonresident senior fellow of the Atlantic Council and the president of the American Institute of Bangladesh Studies (AIBS). Riaz earned his Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of Hawaii under the East West Center fellowship.
