Ana Unruh Cohen is the director of energy,
climate and natural resources for Senator Edward J. Markey (D-Massachusetts).
She has worked on a variety of energy and environmental issues during her
career. In the U.S. House of Representatives, she served as the deputy staff director
of the Natural Resource Committee Democratic staff from 2011 until July 2013
and as the deputy staff director and chief scientist of the Select Committee on
Energy Independence and Global Warming from 2007 through 2010. Unruh Cohen played
a role in developing and passing the Energy Independence and Security Act and
the American Clean Energy and Security Act. Prior to joining the Select
Committee, she was the first director of environmental policy at the Center for
American Progress. She has a B.S. in chemistry from Trinity University and
received her Ph.D. in earth sciences from Oxford University, where she was a
Rhodes Scholar.
