Angela Orellana Franco is a second, third, and fourth grade teacher at the public school in Carasque, Nueva Trinidad, Chalatenango in El Salvador. She entered the field of education during the El Salvador civil war as one of the first popular teachers in the region. After more than a decade of work without pay, she was recognized as an official, salaried teacher by the Ministry of Education in 2000. She later served as school director. Outside of the classroom, she is an active member of the Carasque community, previously holding a seat on the community directive and still regularly attending meetings. She also participates in the Women’s Committee and in the local church choir.
