Metropolitan Athenagoras of Belgium (Yves Peckstadt) has served as metropolitan since 2013 after being elected auxiliary bishop in May 2003 by the Holy Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople. He also holds the honorary title "Bishop of Sinope." He continues to function as Orthodox chaplain of the International Airport of Brussels, and he is an active member of the Concertation of Christian Churches in Belgium. Athenagoras previously served as president of the Interecclesiastical Committee of Brussels. He speaks fluent Flemish, Greek, French, English, and German. Athenagoras has studied at the University of Thessaloniki and Ecumenical Institute of Bossey.
