Rev. Dr. Delman Coates is the senior pastor of Mt. Ennon Baptist Church, where he has served since 2004. Coates is the lieutenant governor running mate of Maryland Democratic gubernatorial candidate Heather R. Mizeur and gained national and international notoriety in 2012 when he testified before the Maryland legislature in favor of a bill to legalize same-sex marriage in the state. His publications include "Towards a Progressive Christian Interpretive Praxis" in The African-American Pulpit (Fall 2004) and “Reaching Eutychus: Reflection on Ministering to the Disconnected in the Postmodern Age” in Doing Church: A Practical Guide from Those Who Do It, vol. 2 (April 2010), among others. He has been named to lists of influential African Americans compiled by The African American Pulpit, “The Root,” and Ebony magazine. Coates holds a B.A. from Morehouse College, M.Div. from Harvard Divinity School, and M.Phil. and Ph.D. from Columbia University.
