Dr. Deon Snyman is Chief Operating Officer of the Foundation for Church-Led Restitution, where he has worked since 2006, focusing on utilizing church mechanisms to try and establish restorative justice programs in order to promote deeper reconciliation in South Africa. An Afrikaner who came of age in apartheid South Africa, Snyman graduated from the University of Pretoria in 1990 and in 1992 began serving the Dutch Reformed Church in Africa as pastor for a rural black community in northern KwaZulu Natal. He then accepted a position with the South African Council of Churches in order to continue working in the KwaZulu Natal region, where he helped coordinate and organize their socio-economic justice programs. Snyman is now affiliated with the Uniting Reformed Church in Southern Africa.
