Elizabeth Warren is the Leo Gottlieb Professor of Law at Harvard Law School (since 1995) and a bankruptcy law expert. Serving as Special Advisor to the Secretary of Treasury for the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) from September 2010-August 2011, Warren was a key architect in establishing the CFPB, but political opposition ultimately prevented her from being named as agency head. From 2008-10 she chaired a congressional oversight panel focused on the Troubled Asset Relief Program (colloquially, "the bailout"), created in the wake of the 2008 financial crisis. She has also taught at the University of Houston, the University of Texas, the University of Michigan, and the University of Pennsylvania. Her publications include The Two-Income Trap: Why Middle-Class Parents are Going Broke (2003, with Amelia Warren Tyagi) and numerous books and journal articles. Warren holds a BS from the University of Houston and JD from Rutgers University.
