Elmer Eriberto Castro Rodriguez is a seventh and eighth grade teacher at the public school in Los Pozos, Nueva Trinidad, Chalatenango in El Salvador. He began his teaching career during the period immediately following the El Salvador civil war with the desire to help young people. He remains committed to this goal of service, envisioning his role as a friend and mentor for his students. Though he and his family currently live in San Juan, he remains in Los Pozos during the school week in order to maximize his time in his classroom.
