Fernando Paredes currently serves as the interim director for the World Bank in Guatemala, following a long career focused on Latin America and especially Guatemala. Paredes studied economics, and his specialty is social evaluation of projects. He initially worked for the Social Investment Fund on economic planning and rural and social development. Through this role, he had the opportunity to visit almost all of Guatemala’s municipalities, looking at project development ranging from education to healthcare. He also has worked on economic planning for the energy and mining sector with the Secretariat for Economic Planning to prepare the inventory of projects that were to be submitted for consideration for external cooperation when the Peace Accords were signed in 1996.
