Francis Spufford, a former Sunday Times Young Writer of the Year (1997), has edited two acclaimed literary anthologies and a collection of essays about the history of technology. Spufford's latest book is Unapologetic: Why, Despite Everything, Christianity Can Still Make Surprising Emotional Sense (2013). His first book, I May Be Some Time: Ice and the English Imagination (1997), won the Writers' Guild Award for Best Non-Fiction Book of 1996, Banff Mountain Book Prize, and a Somerset Maugham Award. His third, The Backroom Boys: The Secret Return of the British Boffin (2003), was shortlisted for the Aventis Prize. Other books include The Child That Books Built: A Life in Reading (2002) and Red Plenty: Industry! Progress! Abundance! Inside the Fifties’ Soviet Dream (2010). In 2007 he was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature. Spufford teaches writing at Goldsmiths College.
