Dr. Frazer Mascarenhas, SJ has served as the Principal of St. Xavier's College in Mumbai since 2003, having begun teaching there in 1988. He has served on numerous education committees and initiatives, including a current term on a Steering Committee of the Planning Commission of India to recommend financial allocation for Higher and Technical Education, during the 12th Five Year Plan of the Government of India. An alumnus of St. Xavier’s High School, Mascarenhas earned a BA in Sociology from St. Xavier’s College. After joining the Society of Jesus, he earned his MA in Sociology from Pune University. He also studied at Loyola University, Chicago and earned his PhD from Mumbai University. His thesis focused on the indigenous people of India (the adivasis) and their distinctive cultural identity.
