Grace Benton holds a master's degree in Arab studies and a certificate in refugee and humanitarian emergencies from Georgetown University and is fluent in Arabic. She has worked and lived in a number of Middle Eastern countries, including Tunisia, Jordan, and the United Arab Emirates; she also coordinated a refugee resettlement legal aid program in Cairo, Egypt, for several years. Most recently, Benton worked as a researcher at Georgetown University focusing on refugees and internally displaced persons in the Middle East. Her research interests include legal entitlements for refugees in the Middle East, internal displacement in Iraq, popular narratives about the displaced, the use of participatory video to enable displaced persons to share their stories, and international responsibility sharing for refugees. She will begin law school in the fall.
