Justin L. Barrett is Senior Researcher at the Centre for Anthropology and Mind and the Institute of Cognitive and Evolutionary Anthropology at Oxford University. Barrett is a founding editor of the Journal of Cognition and Culture and is author of several articles and chapters on the cognitive science of religion. His book Why Would Anyone Believe in God? (2004) presents a scientific account for the prevalence of religious beliefs. Barrett served on the psychology faculties of Calvin College and the University of Michigan (Ann Arbor), and as a research fellow of the Institute for Social Research; he earned degrees in psychology from Calvin College (BA) and Cornell University (PhD).
