Justin Pinkerman is a Ph.D. student in the Department of Government at Georgetown University. His research examines the ideal of autonomy and the phenomenon of social conformism in democratic theory. He has particular interest in the political thought of Ralph Waldo Emerson, Alexis de Tocqueville, and Hannah Arendt. He worked as a research assistant for the Berkley Center’s Religious Freedom Research Project. He holds an M.A. in political science from the University of Georgia.
