J. Kevin Appleby is senior director of international migration policy for the Center for Migration Studies of New York and the Scalabrini International Migration Network. He previously served as director of migration and public affairs in the Office of Migration and Refugee Policy at the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops. In that role Appleby assisted the bishops in the development and promotion of migration and refugee policy positions within the context of the Catholic Church's social and moral teaching; he also implemented communication, public education/outreach and legislative strategies that foster greater advocacy, awareness, understanding, and support for the office's work and the vulnerable populations it serves. He has worked on Capitol Hill for Senator Russell Long of Louisiana and the Senate Select Committee on Iran-Contra. Appleby holds a law degree from the University of Maryland and a master's degree in international affairs from George Washington University.
