Khalid is a peer tutor and student studying English at the diploma level at the Jesuit Refugee Service Higher Education Center in Amman, Jordan. Originally from Sudan, Khalid received a bachelor's degree in geology there. He studied at a Jesuit center in Khartoum before arriving in Jordan in 2014 as a refugee. Khalid also won a scholarship from the World University Service of Canada which he learned about through the Higher Education Center.
