Lawrence O. Gostin is university professor, professor of medicine, and director of the O'Neill Institute for National and Global Health Law at Georgetown University. He is also a director of the World Health Organization Collaborating Center on Public Health Law & Human Rights and professor of public health at Johns Hopkins University. His previous positions include, among others, founding O'Neill Chair in Global Health Law and associate dean for research at Georgetown Law. He has been a member of the International Health Regulations Roster of Experts and the Expert Advisory Panel on Mental Health, Director-General's Advisory Committee on Reforming the World Health Organization, and WHO expert advisory committees on the Pandemic Influenza Preparedness Framework, smallpox, and genomic sequencing data. Recent publications include Global Health Law (2014); Public Health Law: Power, Duty, Restraint (2008, second ed.); and Public Health Law and Ethics: A Reader (2002/2010). He holds a B.A. from the State University of New York, Brockport and J.D. from Duke University.
