Leonilo Aguirres is an eighth grade teacher and school director in Nueva Trinidad, Chalatenango, El Salvador. He began teaching in a refugee camp in Honduras during the El Salvador civil war. When he returned to El Salvador, he continued his career as a popular teacher in Nueva Trinidad. After working without a regular salary for ten years, he was given an official position by the Salvadorian Ministry of Education in 2000. He is currently an active member of the Nueva Trinidad community.
