Lisa Hajjar is an Associate Professor in the Law and Society Program at the University of California, Santa Barbara, which she joined in 2003. Her publications include Courting Conflict: The Israeli Military Court System in the West Bank and Gaza (2005), Human Rights: Critical Concepts in Political Science, Vols. 1-5 (2007, co-edited with Richard Falk and Hilal Elver), and A Survey of the Syrian Population in the Occupied Golan Heights: Demography and Health (1994, co-authored with Hasan Abu Libdeh et al.). Her research interests include law and conflict, human rights, humanitarianism, and cause lawyering. She is currently working on a book, tentatively titled Lawfare: The Legal Campaign Against American Torture. Hajjar previously taught at Morehouse College and Swarthmore College. She holds an MA in Arab Studies with a concentration in international affairs from Georgetown University and a PhD in Sociology from American University.
