Maajid Nawaz is a Liberal Democrat parliamentary candidate in the United Kingdom. He is a former member of the Islamist revolutionary group Hizb ut-Tahrir. His goal now is to help Muslims in the West engage in their current political frameworks, while encouraging non-Western Muslims to work for a democratic culture that values peace and women’s rights. In the United Kingdom, he co-founded Quilliam, a think-tank that focuses on counter-extremism and looks for new narratives of citizenship, identity, and belonging in a globalized world. In 2013, Nawaz's autobiography Radical: My Journey Out of Islamist Extremism was published.
