El Hadji Mansour Sy has served as deputy speaker in the Senegalese Parliament since 2012. Sy is a religious leader of the Tijaniyya, a Sufi order in Senegal, and is also co-president of the World Council of Religions for Peace. Sy previously served at the Islamic Development Bank in Jeddah for 27 years, retiring in 2006. He then became active in Senegalese politics, wishing to help improve the democratic outlook of the country. A native speaker of Wolof, Sy also speaks French, Arabic, and English.
