Maribel Aleman de Alas teaches preschool, first, fifth, and sixth grades in Nueva Trinidad, Chalatenango in El Salvador. She began teaching with only a third grade education in a refugee camp in Honduras during the El Salvador civil war. When her family returned to El Salvador, she continued her career as a popular teacher in Nueva Trinidad and has remained there since. She is currently on the community administrative board and leads a parent education program. She also has one daughter currently in the school system.
