Sister Mary Owens, I.V.B.M., is the executive director of Nyumbani, an organization dedicated to providing HIV/AIDS services to children and affected families in Kenya. Kenya. She came to Nyumbani in 1991 and became executive director in 2006. Owens oversees all of the Nyumbani programs, including residential care facilities, community outreach, and a diagnostic laboratory. She is also responsible for the policy of the center, namely its mission and vision, and is involved in fundraising. Originally from Ireland, Owens has lived in Kenya since 1969. She holds a bachelor’s degree in education from University College, Dublin and a master’s degree in education and counseling from Trinity College, Dublin.
