Michel Camdessus is the former managing director of the International Monetary Fund (1987-2000) and an advocate for development in Africa. He is also honorary governor of the Bank of France and a member of the Vatican's Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace. Camdessus has served as chairman of the French Financing Corporation (Société de Financement de l’Economie Française), member of the U.N. Secretary General’s Advisory Board on Water and Sanitation, member of the Africa Progress Panel, and on the board of the Global Humanitarian Forum. Camdessus has also worked for the French Treasury and the European Economic Community. In September 2009 he spoke on the ethical and moral roots of the economic crisis at Sant'Egidio's annual International Prayer for Peace event.
