Philip Jenkins is a distinguished professor of history at Baylor University and co-director for Baylor's Program on Historical Studies of Religion in the Institute for Studies of Religion. He is also the Edwin Erle Sparks Professor of Humanities emeritus at Pennsylvania State University. Jenkins is a prolific author known for his work on global Christianity and emerging religious movements. Among his many books are Jesus Wars: How Four Patriarchs, Three Queens, and Two Emperors Decided What Christians Would Believe for the Next 1,500 Years (2010); The Lost History of Christianity: The Thousand-Year Golden Age of the Church in the Middle East, Africa, and Asia - and How It Died (2008); and The Next Christendom: The Rise of Global Christianity (2002). He popularized the term “Global South,” which recognized the boom in Christianity in Africa, Asia, and Latin America. Jenkins holds a B.A. and Ph.D. from Clare College, Cambridge.
